Join about 25,000 people ring in New Years 2012 in Pensacola for the exciting Pensacola Pelican Drop NYE party hosted by the Downtown Improvement Board (DIB). This FREE event will have live music, lots of entertainment, and food/drinks available from local businesses and street vendors.  The Pensacola Pelican Drop will happen at Palafox Place in Pensacola. With over 25,000 people expected to attend, street closures will begin early in the morning on December 31 to welcome the crowds. The festivities will begin at 5pm and continue until 12:30am. At midnight, the 14 foot tall Pelican perched on a 100 foot platform at the corner of Palafox and Government Street will drop with a countdown, fireworks display, and confetti drop. Entertainment will include live music on 3 outdoor stages throughout the evening. The popular kids' area will be expanded along with having a special countdown at 8pm with confetti and "bubble stomp". There will be lots of entertainment for kids to keep them entertained throughout the event. Street vendors will sell refreshments (no alcohol) and food. Due to the large crowds, no animals (except service animals) are allowed along with no coolers since refreshments are available.
